Mosque of Ibn Tulun
One of the oldest architectural monuments of Egypt is the mosque of Ibn Tulun. The time of its construction dates back to 868 - 884 years BC. The mosque was built on the orders of Sultan Ahmed Ibn Tulun.
The place of construction of the mosque was the hill Jabal Yashkur. Tradition says that it was here, after the great flood, Noah's Ark stopped his, and the mountain was called in Arabic "The Hill of Thanksgiving."
The mosque is built in the style of sammaranskom which refers to the period of the Abbasid dynasty. The mosque building is set around a courtyard, which is installed inside the dome Sabil. Its fence is decorated with arcades, ornament which is made in the national motives. Inside the mosque there are 2-kilometer Kufic inscriptions. On its western side minaret.
