Al-Azhar Mosque

Mosque of al-Azhar University in Cairo, is one of the most important temples in Egypt and a symbol of the Muslim faith. The mosque was built in the late 10th century and is named after the daughter of the Muslim prophet Fatima Zuhra. The mosque is also the seminary, which was once based in the country to spread Shiism. Here and now studying the Quran, the Arabic language and literature. 

 

Al-Azhar Mosque - one of the finest examples of Islamic architecture. The mosque built of white stone. Inside the courtyard in the center is the minaret is crowned by a dome. It is surrounded by four walls, which are the arcade. The walls inside are decorated with floral ornaments and Kufic inscriptions. Inside the mosque is a huge pillared hall consisting of 380 columns. 

 

Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo near the center. It can be reached by taxi or subway, get off at «Sadat».
