Bibliotheca Alexandrina
Library of Alexandria - the most famous library of the ancient world, which was established in the III century BC. It included the greatest collection of manuscripts and books. Over 600 years remained a major educational center as well as a holy place, which is not inferior in importance temples. However, in the course of wars and invasions Library of Alexandria was destroyed, and its collection of valuable books have been lost.
In 2002, on the site of the magnificent historical monument built a new library of Alexandria. Her archive is designed for eight million books, of which 700,000 copies on display in the reading rooms. The new Library of Alexandria from the vaults of many countries have been donated books, which tell about the most important events of the history of Egypt. The main reading room is located on the roof of the building and its shape resembles an hourglass.
The Library of Alexandria is located in the Egyptian city of Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast. In Alexandria can be reached by train from Cairo, sitting at the station «Ramses Station», or independently by car on the motorway Cairo - Alexandria.
