Great Sphinx of Giza

Great Sphinx of Giza is the world's oldest monumental sculpture that has survived to the present day. The exact time of its construction remains a mystery to archaeologists. 

 

Sphinx statue, shown with a lion's body and a human head, facing the rising sun and is the guardian of the rest of the pharaohs buried around him. At length the statue is 73 meters and a height - 20. The face of the statue resembles a pharaoh Khafre. In ancient Egypt, it was customary to depict the pharaoh in the form of a lion, defeating their enemies. Sphinx statue put fear into the superstitious Egyptians, because it was called the "Father of Terror" and repeatedly wanted to destroy. Between the front paws of the Sphinx is the entrance into the church, but all of his moves are not fully understood. 

 

Great Sphinx located near Cairo in Giza. You can get there by subway, going to the station «Giza Station» and taking the bus number 900 or 997 number. In addition, from Cairo to Giza every 20 minutes walking buses number 355 and number 357.
